Sunday Morning

This past Sunday morning I attended a beautiful rainbow themed gender neutral baby shower. My favorite part? Scoping out the awesome backyard and especially the fence at the host’s house. I’m not a baby person. I fully support those who choose to have children but that maternal instinct and desire to have one of my own doesn’t exist in me. The result is that I’m generally awkward and uncomfortable around children. I love my nieces and nephew like crazy, but I’m totally awkward Aunt Sam. My goal has always been to be Cool Aunt Sam, and perhaps that will happen […]

Hear

I skipped sacred- so sue me. The word and it’s meaning don’t really resonate with me so I didn’t have much to work with. Hear is a tough thing to capture in a photograph…so, I didn’t. I hear the clanging of dishes downstairs as dinner is prepared. I hear my stomach grumbling to eat that meal. I hear the air conditioner whirring to keep up with the humidity in this room. I hear Hopeless Wanderer that is hopelessly stuck in my head after watching the hilariously awesome music video. It made me even more excited to see them live tomorrow […]

Midday

One of the highlights of my visit to the Biltmore Estate while on vacation was the breathtaking view and the outdoor elements of the estate. For the first part of the tour, I only got glimpses of the outside through drawn curtain and closed windows. Eventually, we were lead to this giant patio we could walk onto and see the expanse of the property as well as the perfect weather. It was impossible to capture this in just one frame, so I used a cool app called Photosynth to take a multi-directional panorama. I could’ve sat out there all day, […]

Something Old

While visiting Asheville, North Carolina on my disconnected vacation, I visited the Biltmore Estate with Nate, my sister and a couple of her friends. Man, that place is impressive. The walking tour throughout the house was full of character and incredible detail. My dad claims we went there when we were younger on another less successful family vacation but I know I didn’t appreciate it then as I do now, as an artist, lover of architecture, and of course, homeowner. I’m sure my increased appreciation had nothing to do with being of legal drinking age and being able to enjoy […]

Taste

Wowzer am I behind on my blog challenge! I must admit I don’t feel too bad since I was on a wonderful vacation with family and didn’t mind the lousy internet connection forcing me to disconnect for a few days. Remember when I originally posted about taste and how it was for some reason a prompt for two different days? So, now I’m catching up with the second taste, pertaining to food and flavors. Now that I’m actually sitting down to write this, I feel like I should’ve taken more photos of food while I was on vacation because, man, […]

White

White isn’t found in my life that much. As I’ve said previously I love me some bright colors! While walking through the North Carolina Arboretum full of beautiful flowers, plants and trees, I came across this beautiful variant of a hydrangea. I’ve always loved hydrangeas in their colored iterations but this white tree version was quite striking.

Looking Down

I love doing as much as I can outside when I’m on vacation in a gorgeous place. This trip included some great rafting on the French Broad River, as well as some fun hiking. Perhaps my least favorite part about hiking is how much time I spend looking down. I love to get out and see the rivers, the trees, and the mountains in the distance. Yet, I spend most of my time looking at my feet to make sure they land somewhere secure.

Touch

Being on vacation with my family provides a unique opportunity to spend some quality time with my sisters and now, my seven month old niece. She’s starting to teeth so has been having a rough week. Peaceful sleepy moments like this are good for her and for the rest of us.

Floral

Arrived in Asheville for our first day of vacation at this incredible property, filled with locally sourced wood, creative, homey details and lovely flowers and trees. The good and bad news is that the internet access is spotty. I’ll be out of touch some which will be lovely, but still doing my best to keep up with the challenge.
