I turned 33 the other day…

My 33rd birthday passed without much fanfare, just as I would prefer. I didn’t accomplish many of the things I set out in my 33 before 33 list of goals. But I’ve come to realize that while goals are good, there needs to be room for them to evolve and change. And an arbitrary schedule for goals may not be all that useful. I did publish a 6-month update to that list. I may or may not publish a final accounting just to tie that year up with a bow. One thing that I definitely and very obviously didn’t hit […]

33 Before 33 – 6ish Month Update

In February, I shared a list of 33 things I planned to do before turning 33, inspired by my friend Ryan. Now that it has been about six months, it seems to be the right time to share an update on where things stand with all these goals and intentions. Visit South Korea. Not yet but tickets are booked! Visit Japan. Not yet but tickets are booked! See 3 of my favorite friends marry the loves of their lives. One down, two to go! Serve on the committee for the Swissvale Community Garden’s second growing season. I continue to do […]

33 Before 33

I am not big on my birthday. I don’t like lots of attention, and my childhood memories are fraught with poopy birthdays. As an adult, I try to make just enough plans so that I get out of the house, get a hug from someone I love, and eat some tasty food. This year that all worked out despite having a rocking headache so I call the day a win. For so long, my birthday was something I hated, but I am preferring the gentler approach of it being a little different than any other day, but not the greatest day […]

Breaking Up with Bullshit

I’ve been dabbling with digital detox for the last few months. I deleted the Facebook app off my phone before going on a vacation and then just left it off. I also installed a Chrome extension called News Feed Eradicator on my work computer that replaces the feed with an inspirational quote. The inspiration is questionable as the seemingly small pool of quotes started repeating after about a week. I’ve kept the Facebook Groups app on my phone to stay connected to groups I find valuable, the number of which is steadily decreasing. Sometimes when I consider how limited my […]

Changing it Up

When I started this blog, I had no idea I was on my way to starting my own business. I simply wanted a space to write down the stories of my life.  I had so much fear around starting because I felt that all my stories worth telling would be negative. So far, I’ve largely fulfilled that prophecy, writing about the trauma of seeing an ex, depression and the failure of my mother to fulfill her role. But, I haven’t written anything since November. This is largely because when I think about the topics I intended to write about, I don’t […]

I’m featured in a book!

Really, it’s true. Actually, lots of cool stuff around books is happening around these parts the last few weeks. I’m editing a cookbook that’s all about the nutritional value in different colored foods. I’m starting a book project with a local photographer. And, I’m featured in a book.  The lovely ladies of Propelle have authored their first e-book on entrepreneurship called Seven Secrets to Soaring, and it features relevant stories of some super inspiring women. My piece was about valuing and believing in myself. Those of you regular follow this blog or know me well will recognize this as a topic […]

My Love of Writing Knows No Bounds

Writing and editing lights me up. I know that makes me weird to some people, but I know there are others who get this particular brand of enthusiasm. I really can’t describe the satisfaction that comes from putting words together in a compelling, clear way that communicates a message or story. My business is focused on supporting writing and editing needs of creatives and artists. I grew up an artistic kid, focused on studio art in both high school and college and so have a love for all things creative. Because of that, I have a passion for seeing artists and creatives […]
